lesson: what is sensation?
- sensation: the bottom-up process by which our senses like vision, hearing and smell, receive and relay outside stimuli
- perception: the top down way our brains organize and intercept that information and put it into context
lesson: state of consciousness
- consciousness: our awareness of ourselves and our environment
- different levels of consciousness include low awareness (but still able to receive signals) and high awareness (more in control of thoughts)
- consciousness can be altered through stimulants, depressants, and hallucinogens
lesson: remembering and forgetting
- memories are started either implicitly or explicitly
- like a trail of breadcrumbs leading back to a particular memory where the more you have, the better you can find the memory you're looking for
- certain moods can help you recall certain memories
